Ethiopia starts evacuating citizens from South Sudan

Ethiopia has started evacuating its citizens from South Sudan, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) has announced.

According to Ambassador Dina Mufti, MoFA Spokesperson, a taskforce comprising members drawn from MoFA, National Information and Security Service, Administration for the Refugee and Returnees Affairs, Federal Police and Disaster Prevention has been set up for the purpose.

Coordinated efforts are underway to receive the returnees.

650 Ethiopians have already been brought back home from Nasir town of the Upper Nile state via the Gambella region of Ethiopia.

The federal government and the Gambella state are providing the necessary support for the returnees.

300 Ethiopians have been evacuated from Bor to Juba on helicopter. Similarly, another 800 Ethiopians have been moved from Bantu to Heglig on helicopter.

Efforts are also under way to evacuate Ethiopians from other conflict zones to Juba.
