Ethiopian Airlines is implementing a mobile health passport platform in partnership with the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention.
The carrier is using the African Union Trusted Traveler Pass, a portal developed by the African CDC and the African Union Commission, which includes information about travel restrictions by country and a database of authorized laboratories providing Covid-19 testing.
Those labs can then provide digital test results with which passengers can receive a clearance code either from the carrier’s website or at the airport.
The platform “will be pivotal in increasing the number of passengers while making air travel safer,” according to Ethiopian Airlines chief information officer Getinet Tadesse.
Ethiopian Airlines follows Kenya Airways, which implemented the platform earlier this month.
